What we have achieved
Since its foundation in 1998, the Trust has successfully sponsored 950 children. Of those, 450 children have completed their studies, completing their O and/or A Level examinations or passing out from university.
We now sponsor over four hundred children in Sri Lanka and over thirty two children in Nepal. Among them 37 students are studying in universities and other institutes of higher education. This year also we have over 10 children who are waiting to enter higher education.
We also support a variety of projects with funds to meet a specific need. In addition to Sri Lanka, we fund children and projects in Nepal and Kenya. The needs are enormous, but with the generous support of our donors, we are able to make a significant difference to the lives of many children.
During last twenty two (22) years, we have made grants totalling £1,260,494.00 in support of sponsoring children and projects such as providing library books, school desks, computers, and audio-visual equipment. Total administrative costs amounted to £23,213.00. This represents a mere 1.81% of our income, which is covered by our general funds. We deduct nothing from the amount donated by sponsors to support individual children.
These are a few of the comments we have received from some of the children:
"I wish to express my sincere thanks to you for the kindness and generosity extended to me for years until now. Your helping hand was one of the greatest secrets that brought me here...... My father passed away by an accident in 2006 when I was just eleven....... Your freewill offerings help me to manage my class fees as here in Sri Lanka, the support class teachers are demanding a relatively high price for their service. Me and my mom gratefully appreciate your kind heart helping with a prospect of no return. The only thing I can do is to study well making my mother's efforts and your generous help worthwhile. I am working my best for that." (Lishani Gayangani)
"I want to thank you and express my gratitude for your financial support for my education. For the last few years your financial support is successfully helping me and my sisters' education. After the death of our father, my mother faced enormous difficulties for us to continue our studies. Your support helped to reduce her financial burdens. Now I am sitting for GCE "A" Level exams. My sister is sitting for GCE "O" Levels this year. My elder sister is studying at the university. The success of the education for the three of us is due to your support. On behalf of all the family members I want to say thank you and we hope you will be able to continue to offer support so that we can all complete our education." (Kusumalatha Menike)
"I think if I call you as a god, I am 100% correct. Because I am a poor student. My father is a farmer and mother doesn't have an occupation. So they can't spend big capital for my studies. So your scholarship helps me so much..... I wish all your dreams come true and all targets become success." (Lakshika Sandaruvan)
