The Rahula Trust--a fully-registered charity in the UK--raises funds to sponsor the education of
some of the world's poorest children. Donors to the Trust come from many
religious and social backgrounds, and children are selected for sponsorship
regardless
of their faith,
race, sex or nationality,
the only requirement being that they be poor and academically gifted.
Today,
half of the world's poorest countries are suffering, or have just emerged
from, serious conflicts. Children, women and elderly people are 10 times
more likely to be victims of conflict than soldiers. Millions are forced
to flee their homes. At present, there are over 30 million refugees and
they are among the poorest people in the world.
We all want to live
in a peaceful and stable world. Without peace and security we cannot eliminate
poverty. It is for these reasons that The Rahula Trust has set up for
children in need. This is an ambitious project, but it has small beginnings.
The Rahula Trust already
sponsors over hundred children in Sri Lanka. Now having proved so successful,
the Trust is to expand to other countries such as Tibet, Burma (now Mynamar),
Thailand, Bhutan, India, and Nepal. But to help others we need your help.
